Star Wars: A New Hope

The timeline of a galaxy far, far away is officially expanding. Disneyland Resort has announced that starting April 29, 2026, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will break away from its strict sequel-era setting. For the first time, fans can immerse themselves in stories from the Original Trilogy and the Galactic Civil War. This massive update “unlocks” the land, allowing characters and music from the first six films to become permanent fixtures on Batuu.

The biggest highlight of this expansion is the arrival of the legendary trio. Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, and Han Solo will now be permanent roaming characters within Black Spire Outpost. Luke will roam the streets seeking knowledge of the Force, while Leia recruits locals to help the Rebellion. Han Solo will linger near his iconic ship, though he is frequently seen dodging debt collectors near the cantina.

The Dark Side Presence

Where there are heroes, the villains are sure to follow. Darth Vader is officially coming to Galaxy’s Edge accompanied by Imperial Stormtroopers. The Sith Lord will be on a mission to track down Luke Skywalker. To accommodate Vader’s presence, Kylo Ren will leave the outpost. Fans can still find Kylo Ren in Tomorrowland at the Star Wars Launch Bay for a special character experience.

Disneyland is also adding a new background music loop featuring the legendary scores of John Williams. As you enter through the tunnels, the “Main Title” and “The Force Theme” will greet you. Throughout the day, motifs from “Han Solo and the Princess” and “The Emperor” will play in the streets. This marks the first time non-diegetic film music will play throughout the entire land.

New Missions and Rebrands

The updates extend to the land’s retail and attractions as well. First Order Cargo is being rebranded as Black Spire Surplus, focusing on military salvage from both the Empire and the Rebellion. Additionally, on May 22, 2026, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will debut a new mission. This adventure features The Mandalorian and Grogu, timed with the release of their upcoming theatrical film.

It is important to note that these timeline changes are currently exclusive to Disneyland Park in California. The Florida version at Walt Disney World remains in the sequel era for now. These changes represent a major shift in how Disney approaches storytelling within its themed lands, prioritizing fan favorites over a strict chronological timeline.
