An emergency situation unfolded at Walt Disney World on Thursday. A kitchen grease fire broke out inside The Dolphin Hotel. Fire crews quickly evacuated the resort. Guests stood on the surrounding walkways as emergency teams rushed to the scene. The sudden emergency caused brief confusion among visitors. Staff scheduled routine fire alarm testing earlier that day, which misled some guests during the evacuation process.
Thick Smoke Clouds the Sky
A massive cloud of thick, black smoke billowed from the resort tower. This created a dramatic scene for onlookers nearby. The dense smoke quickly drifted across neighboring areas. It flooded Disney’s BoardWalk and Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort. The heavy smoke even reached the International Gateway entrance of EPCOT, causing crowds to watch the activity. Many guests took to social media during the evacuation to share updates, photos, and real-time reactions to the smoke rising over the resort, as you can see below:

The emergency response revealed the source of the danger. A kitchen grease duct fire ignited inside the ventilation system. The fire started near the resort’s steakhouse. This temporarily disrupted nearby dining reservations and hotel operations. Emergency crews responded swiftly to the alarm. They knocked out the heavy flames within five minutes. Then, they carefully inspected the roof structure for lingering heat. You can see the smoke for yourself in the video below:

Firefighters Suppress the Flames
Guests spotted firefighters using saws on the roof of the tower. This aggressive tactic allowed crews to ensure the hidden fire died out within the ventilation ductwork. The thick black smoke transitioned into light white and gray smoke. Firefighters successfully controlled the situation through these direct measures on the roof.
Crews resolved the situation quickly. They gave the official “all clear” for guests to return inside the resort. Officials reported no injuries or major structural damage from the property. Everyone remained safe during the incident at the popular resort. Guests returned to their rooms and continued their vacations as the evening progressed.
