A shocking incident occurred at Disneyland Park on Sunday, June 21, when a teenage guest exited his moving ride vehicle and fell down the main drop. The incident took place at approximately 6:00 PM on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The 13-year-old boy climbed out of his log flume vehicle near the top of the lift hill. He then tumbled down the signature 52.5-foot final drop.

A Disney cast member immediately hit the emergency stop to halt the attraction once the boy exited the log. Onlookers on a nearby viewing bridge reported hearing screams as they watched the teenager slide down the water flume chute. Workers immediately evacuated the attraction and closed it for the rest of Sunday evening.

Eyewitness Accounts and Official Response

Guests inside the ride at the time reported a heavy security and medical presence at the exit. One rider saw a mother and two soaking-wet children leave the area with six Disney security officers. Rumors immediately began circulating on social media regarding the severity of the teenager’s injuries due to the massive scale of the drop. Many guests took to the internet immediately after it happed as you can see below:

Disneyland officials later released an official statement via reporter Scott Gustin to clarify the boy’s condition. The park confirmed that the 13-year-old guest exited the vehicle before the attraction ended. Medics transported him to a local hospital. Fortunately, the teen escaped major injury. Doctors released him after an evaluation for minor cuts and scrapes. California workplace safety inspectors from Cal/OSHA reviewed the ride on Monday morning and cleared the attraction to reopen.

Ride Mechanics and Safety Reminder

The incident has renewed online discussions regarding the safety design of classic log flume attractions. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure reopened in late 2024 as a reimagining of Splash Mountain. Like its predecessor, the Disneyland version of the ride utilizes traditional logs without lap bars or seatbelts.

Theme park safety experts note that engineers intentionally design log flumes without restraints. This design allows for rapid evacuation if a vehicle ever capsizes or sinks in the flume channels. Because physical bars do not hold riders in place, the safety of the attraction relies entirely on guests following park rules to remain fully seated inside the log.
