A dining experience at a Disney World restaurant ended in a chaotic physical altercation and serious criminal charges. Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a severe disturbance inside Steakhouse 71, located on the first floor of Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Authorities arrested 57-year-old Leslie Helen Varley following a violent outburst over restaurant seating arrangements.
The entire conflict began when Varley grew completely irate with restaurant staff regarding her large dining party. Management informed the group that they could not arbitrarily rearrange existing restaurant tables to seat the entire party directly together due to safety regulations. When a female manager attempted to explain the operational policy, Varley completely lost her temper and violently escalated the situation.
Violent Escalation Inside Steakhouse 71
According to the official arrest report, Varley grabbed three glasses filled with ice water and hurled them directly at a male Disney Duty Manager. The heavy glasses struck his body and shattered across the dining room floor, causing immediate property damage. Varley then lunged forward, aggressively ripped the metal Disney name tag off the manager’s jacket uniform, and tried to flee the check-in podium. You can see her mug shot below:
The female restaurant manager immediately stepped in to protect her staff and defuse the explosive situation. Varley quickly turned on her, grabbing the manager forcefully by both shoulders and shoving her backward six full steps into the restaurant. Responding deputies booked Varley into the local jail on two counts of misdemeanor battery, criminal mischief, and a felony charge of robbery by sudden snatching for stealing the name tag.
Lifetime Ban Issued Following Arrest
When questioned by law enforcement officers on the scene, Varley claimed she reacted poorly because she believed employee cast members were making negative comments about her family. She openly admitted to throwing the ice water and snatching the name tag but argued she only wanted the item to formally identify the worker for a corporate complaint.
Both victimized Disney managers declined on-scene emergency medical treatment but officially invoked Marsy’s Law for enhanced legal protection against the defendant. Alongside her formal criminal prosecution in Orange County court, Walt Disney World security issued Varley a permanent, lifetime trespass warning, legally barring her from ever entering any Disney park or resort property again.
