Today, February 1, 2026, marks the final day for the remaining icons of DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Starting tomorrow, the land will be entirely closed to guests. The resort is preparing for the massive Tropical Americas expansion, which is set to debut in 2027. This final closure includes the permanent end of the DINOSAUR attraction, Restaurantosaurus, and the Dino Institute Shop.
Despite a historic freeze hitting the Orlando area today, thousands of fans are braving the cold. Temperatures in the teens and twenties have not stopped dedicated guests from saying goodbye to Aladar one last time. The atmosphere is bittersweet as crowds fill the land to experience the sights and sounds of the prehistoric district before it goes extinct. Many visitors are sharing their final memories on social media while bundled in heavy winter coats.
A Phased Exit and Operational Struggles
This closing is the final piece of a phased transition for the park. It follows the 2025 closures of Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama and The Boneyard playground. The land has been “limping” toward the finish line during its final weekend of operation. DINOSAUR has faced several technical issues, including delayed openings and running at half-capacity with only one load station.
These operational challenges have led to wait times exceeding 100 minutes throughout the day. Even with long lines, the demand for one last trip through time remains high. Fans are also rushing to grab any remaining “Farewell DinoLand” merchandise before the shops close for good tonight. By tomorrow morning, construction walls will completely block off the area from guest access.
The Future is Tropical with Pueblo Esperanza
The future of this 11-acre space is already taking shape as Pueblo Esperanza. This new land will celebrate the Tropical Americas with brand-new experiences. Construction is already moving at a rapid pace, with steel framework going vertical for the upcoming Encanto attraction. Guests will soon follow Antonio Madrigal into his rainforest-themed bedroom in a new “E-Ticket” ride.
The building that currently houses DINOSAUR will be reimagined for a new Indiana Jones adventure. This will not be a clone of the California version, but a new story featuring a Maya temple. A new wood-carved carousel featuring favorite Disney animals will also be added to the village. The erasure of DinoLand is already visible at the Adventurers Outpost. The meet-and-greet backdrop was recently updated to replace the DinoLand map with an image of the Casita.
