Disney moved with remarkable speed this morning to strip the Aerosmith identity from Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios. Following the attraction’s permanent closure on March 1, 2026, crews worked through the night to remove the band’s name from the entrance marquee and the iconic 40-foot Stratocaster guitar. This rapid transition marks the official start of the ride’s multi-month reimagining into a Muppet-themed experience. Fans arriving at the park today found construction walls already surrounding the courtyard entrance. The attraction has also been scrubbed from the My Disney Experience app and the latest physical park maps.
Visible Changes in the Animation Courtyard
The overnight transformation has significantly altered the look of the Sunset Boulevard expansion. The Aerosmith name has been removed from both the building signage and the iconic red guitar structure. Large beige scrims now cover the exterior posters that once featured the legendary rock band. These temporary covers will eventually be replaced by new artwork featuring The Electric Mayhem. A new A-frame sign at the courtyard entrance now cheekily informs guests that the coaster is closed “as we load in the band,” referencing the Muppets’ signature song “Movin’ Right Along.”
The Muppets Take Over G-Force Records
When the ride reopens in Summer 2026, it will debut a completely new storyline starring the Muppets. The fictional G-Force Records is now under the chaotic management of Scooter and his uncle, J.P. Grosse. Guests will enter the studio during a frantic recording session with Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. The new experience will feature the first-ever Scooter Audio-Animatronic alongside a crew of penguin sound engineers. This narrative shift promises to bring a humorous and family-friendly tone to the high-speed attraction while keeping the rock-and-roll spirit alive.
Technical Updates and Ride Experience
While the theme is changing, the core thrill of the attraction will remain exactly the same. Disney has confirmed that the track layout and the famous 0-57 mph launch are not being altered during this refurbishment. The “super-stretch limo” ride vehicles will receive a psychedelic new look inspired by Muppet history. Each vehicle will also feature a brand-new soundtrack recorded by The Electric Mayhem specifically for the coaster. These updates ensure that the ride stays intense while offering a fresh experience for returning guests who have ridden the Aerosmith version for decades.
Courtyard Access and Current Operations
The Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster courtyard remains partially open to guests during the ongoing construction. This access is necessary for fans attending the nearby Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After stage show at Sunset Showcase. Several food and merchandise locations in the area, including KRNR The Rock Station, continue to operate on their normal schedules. However, the “Rock Around the Shop” gift station is currently closed as it undergoes its own thematic transition. Disney is using this phased approach to keep the area active while the heavy construction work happens behind the walls.
Strategic Shift for Hollywood Studios
This rapid retheme is part of a larger plan to revitalize the Animation Courtyard and Sunset Boulevard. By moving the Muppets into the coaster, Disney is freeing up space for the upcoming Monsters, Inc. land expansion. This strategy allows the company to preserve the Muppets’ presence in the park while introducing newer intellectual properties. The speed of the Aerosmith removal suggests that Disney was well-prepared for the end of the long-standing licensing agreement. It signals a new chapter for Hollywood Studios as it leans further into its own massive character portfolio.
