Monsters Inc Door Coaster 2

Disney’s Hollywood Studios just reached a massive construction milestone. The Monsters, Inc. coaster has officially moved from groundwork to steel. The first vertical support columns are now standing. This project transforms the former Muppets Courtyard into a living version of Monstropolis. These massive steel pillars mark the end of foundation work. This expansion is the park’s most ambitious project in years.

The Engineering Of A First-Of-Its-Kind Coaster

This new attraction is the first suspended roller coaster in Disney Parks history. The ride system uses industrial, dark-zinc grey track. This color helps the rails “disappear” into the shadows of the show building. Brightly colored doors will appear to float independently through the vault. The coaster also features a vertical lift hill. This system pulls ride vehicles straight up into the factory rafters.

The Transformation Of The Muppets Courtyard

The landscape of Hollywood Studios is shifting rapidly. Monstropolis is taking over the former Muppet*Vision 3D footprint. Scaffolding now surrounds the old theater’s clock tower. Crews are currently stripping away the original brickwork. Public records show Disney is investing $22.4 million into this theater’s overhaul. The venue will eventually become “The Glob” stage show. Workers are entirely gutting the interior for this new experience.

Harryhausen’s And The Streets Of Monstropolis

The land expansion includes a fully immersive city. Crews already demolished the Stage 1 Company Store for the gravity building. Nearby, Mama Melrose’s is becoming Harryhausen’s sushi restaurant. The former PizzeRizzo is also under scaffolding for a “Monster” makeover. Guests will soon feel like they stepped into a Pixar-inspired metropolis. These changes create a seamless transition into the world of Monsters, Inc.

Timeline And The Muppet Trade-Off

Vertical construction is a major step forward for the project. However, the “Door Vault” still faces a long construction road. It usually takes eighteen months to enclose a coaster structure. Interior show-set installation then takes another full year. This puts the realistic opening target in the Summer of 2028. Fans can still find the Muppets over on Sunset Boulevard. The Electric Mayhem is currently taking over the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
