Disney’s Hollywood Studios is officially bringing back the “Magic of Disney Animation” pavilion in late summer 2026. The resort plans to replace the current Star Wars: Launch Bay with a total reimagining of the classic animation area. This project anchors a larger rebrand of the Animation Courtyard into “The Walt Disney Studios Lot.” The centerpiece of this expansion is a new, high-tech drawing experience called “Olaf Draws!”
A High-Tech Host
A state-of-the-art Audio-Animatronic Olaf will host the new drawing lessons from a custom animator’s desk. Imagineers are using advanced A-1000 technology and reinforcement learning to mimic the snowman’s unique movements. Josh Gad also recorded original dialogue specifically for this new attraction. This scale-accurate figure sits at the front of the class to guide guests through the creative process.
Learning from the Legends
While Olaf serves as the host, legendary Disney animators will lead the actual drawing lessons via step-by-step videos. Guests can learn to draw iconic characters like Mickey Mouse, Stitch, and Ursula. The lineup features famous creators like Eric Goldberg and Byron Howard to provide professional-level instruction. This blend of live-action robotics and digital lessons aims to inspire the next generation of artists.
Workstations for Every Artist
The studio space will feature unique workstations designed for all age groups. Younger “animators-in-the-making” can use themed sleigh tables while adults work at professional-style animator desks. Outside, the pavilion will undergo a massive renovation to resemble the Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank. This includes the return of the iconic blue Sorcerer Mickey hat to the Hollywood Studios skyline.
The Return of the Animation Lot
The “Olaf Draws!” experience is just one part of the new multi-sensory pavilion. The area will also feature a new Mary Blair-inspired playground and the “Once Upon a Studio” theater. Fans can also participate in character meet-and-greets themed to different parts of the animation pipeline. These additions signal a return to the park’s original mission of celebrating the art of filmmaking.
