Walt Disney World is dramatically ramping up enforcement against unauthorized third-party vendors. The resort has begun issuing another wave of cease-and-desist letters to local businesses, signaling a zero-tolerance shift in policy. While Disney has long barred commercial activity on its private property, this latest movement directly impacts a wide variety of services that guests have relied on to customize their vacations for years.

Targeting In-Room and Park Services

The crackdown specifically targets small businesses that operate inside Disney resort hotels and theme parks. Impacted services include private chefs, massage therapists, stylists, and independent photographers. Additionally, the popular “room decorating” businesses that surprise guests with birthday or anniversary setups are now prohibited. Disney Security is explicitly barring these vendors from theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs.

Impact on the “Ear For Each Other” Community

Many of these businesses grew out of the “Ear For Each Other” Facebook community. This group started in late 2020 as a way for furloughed Cast Members to share their skills during the pandemic. Over time, these “side hustles” became full-time careers for many former employees. The community, which has nearly 300,000 members, is now reacting with heartbreak as many of their favorite small businesses face immediate closure on Disney property.

Documented Cease-And-Desist Orders

Evidence of the crackdown became public when Mr. Wiley, owner of Calikingcuisine, shared his cease-and-desist letter online. The letter, signed by Linda Reid, VP of WDW Security, was blunt. It stated that his personal chef services are “not permitted on Walt Disney World Resort property.” Similarly, local photographer Natalie Szolomayer posted a viral “goodbye” to her business. She confirmed that Disney Security directed her to end all on-property sessions immediately.

Disney’s Stance: Safety and Liability

Disney cites safety and liability as the primary drivers for this enforcement. The company argues that unvetted vendors create insurance risks, such as foodborne illness or property damage. From a business perspective, the move also funnel guests back to official offerings. By removing third-party competition, Disney ensures guests use PhotoPass or Disney Floral & Gifts for their celebration needs.

The Future for Impacted Vendors

The consequences for ignoring these letters are severe. Disney has warned vendors they face permanent trespass notices and potential legal action. This would mean a lifetime ban from all Disney properties worldwide. In response, many businesses are pivoting to off-property locations like nearby Airbnbs. Others have been forced to cancel existing bookings entirely, leaving many upcoming vacations without the “extra magic” guests originally planned.
