A beloved, hands-on experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom may soon be history. According to growing rumors and mounting evidence, the Affection Section petting zoo at Rafiki’s Planet Watch is slated for permanent closure this spring.
For years, the Affection Section has been the only place at Walt Disney World where guests could pet domestic animals. However, it appears these interactions are ending to make way for the arrival of Bluey.
The Evidence for Closure
While Disney has not officially used the phrase “permanent closure,” several indicators suggest the petting zoo’s days are numbered. The official Walt Disney World operating calendar currently lists hours for the Affection Section only through mid-March 2026.
Furthermore, on-the-ground reports indicate that Cast Members have been informing guests that the area will be closing “soon.” Staff members currently assigned to the Affection Section have reportedly already received reassignments within the park.
Making Way for Bluey and Friends
The driving force behind this change is the arrival of Bluey and Bingo. Disney recently announced that a new “Bluey’s Beach Cabana” experience will open at Conservation Station in Summer 2026.
The announcement stated that guests would discover animals native to Australia. The Affection Section is the most logical location to convert into habitats for these new species. This move effectively replaces domestic goats with Australian wildlife.
A Blow to Kid-Friendly Options
If these rumors prove true, the closure marks a significant shift for the park. The Affection Section is the only petting zoo at the entire Walt Disney World Resort. Its removal is particularly concerning following the phased closures in DinoLand U.S.A.
Families are rapidly losing interactive, hands-on areas for toddlers and preschoolers. Until Disney makes an official announcement, fans of the petting zoo are holding onto hope, but the evidence suggest the goats are leaving.
