The Walt Disney Company is celebrating a massive awards season victory after earning an incredible 125 nominations for the 78th Emmy Awards. Announced this week, the total recognition spans across the brand’s expansive media ecosystem. Disney’s diverse studios dominated categories in broadcast television, streaming platforms, documentaries, and animation. The strong showing positions the corporate giant at the very front of the entertainment industry ahead of the upcoming September ceremony.
Streaming platforms served as the primary home for Disney’s award-winning content this year. Combined, Disney+ and Hulu accounted for an impressive 109 of the total nominations. Hulu led the internal race with a dominant 95 nods, while Disney+ secured 34 nominations. Meanwhile, ABC led the traditional broadcast television network landscape, contributing heavily to the final corporate total.
The Biggest Hits Driving The Total
Several flagship series emerged as major critical heavy hitters for the company. The highly acclaimed thriller series The Beast in Me led the portfolio with nine total nominations. Hit comedy The Bear followed closely behind with eight nods, capturing nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series and a Lead Actress nod for Ayo Edebiri. Additionally, Hulu’s new drama Paradise pulled in seven nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and a Lead Actor recognition for Sterling K. Brown.
Pop culture and variety specials also earned major recognition from the television academy. Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show picked up five nominations on Disney+. Beloved classic The Muppet Show also secured five nods, including an Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance nomination for Matt Vogel. Lucasfilm contributed to the variety by landing an Outstanding Animated Program nod for Star Wars: Visions.
Historic Comedy Milestones On Television
The massive nomination sweep also brought a few historic milestones for individual production studios. Marvel Television earned a groundbreaking nomination for its streaming series Wonder Man. Star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. This marks the first time a Marvel Television production has ever received an Emmy nomination for a performance in a comedy series.
