The live-action adaptation of Tangled is rapidly taking shape. After Disney officially confirmed its leading stars, the last major piece of the puzzle is falling into place. Kathryn Hahn is in final negotiations to play the iconic villain, Mother Gothel, a casting choice fans have championed for years.
A Dream Casting Realized
Kathryn Hahn has become the definitive choice for Mother Gothel. While her contract is being finalized, she is the clear frontrunner. Her recent success as the manipulative Agatha Harkness in the MCU proved her mastery of theatrical villainy. This, combined with her extensive Broadway background and powerful singing voice, makes her the ideal performer for the film’s iconic ballad, “Mother Knows Best.”
Interestingly, Hahn is stepping into a role previously considered by Scarlett Johansson. Johansson reportedly withdrew from the project due to scheduling conflicts with Batman II. This paved the way for the internet’s preferred choice to take center stage.
The Stars of the Show
Hahn will join the officially confirmed leads for Tangled. Teagan Croft, known for her role in Titans, will portray the spirited Rapunzel. Filling the role of the charming rogue Flynn Rider is Milo Manheim, a familiar face from Disney’s Zombies franchise.
The film has a strong creative team. Director Michael Gracey, celebrated for his work on The Greatest Showman, will bring a vibrant musical vision to the fairytale. Writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has penned the latest script. With this talent assembled, Tangled is no longer a rumor; it is a top priority for the studio.
The Countdown to 2027
Production for Tangled is set to begin in June 2026. Crews will utilize stunning locations across Spain and the United Kingdom to craft the visual world of Corona and Rapunzel’s tower. Fans can anticipate a grand theatrical release in 2027. With its cast nearly complete and a seasoned director at the helm, this live-action retelling promises to be a magical experience for audiences worldwide.
