A power outage hit Walt Disney World earlier today, impacting all four of its theme parks. The storm-related power surge temporarily shut down over 40 attractions. This widespread disruption affected thousands of guests in the late afternoon.

The Cause and Impact

A powerful storm with lightning moved through Central Florida, causing the power surge. The unexpected event tripped various systems offline across the resort. It affected both indoor and outdoor rides, as well as park lighting and displays. This level of power disruption is an uncommon occurrence for Disney.

Guests and Cast Members React

Guests caught on attractions were safely evacuated. Disney Cast Members swiftly implemented safety protocols. Staff worked diligently to manage crowds and keep guests informed. They directed them to areas where power was restored. The Monorail system also experienced temporary interruptions.

Popular Rides Affected

The outage touched nearly every corner of the vast resort. Many popular rides shut down. At Magic Kingdom, this included “Space Mountain” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” “Test Track” and “Frozen Ever After” were affected at Epcot. “Twilight Zone Tower of Terror” and “Slinky Dog Dash” stopped at Hollywood Studios. “Avatar Flight of Passage” and “Expedition Everest” were also impacted at Animal Kingdom.

Power Restored in the Evening

Throughout the evening, power and ride operations were gradually restored. The outage was relatively brief. However, its widespread nature made it a significant and unusual event. It highlighted the challenges of maintaining seamless operations, even during natural phenomena.
