Disney is taking the next step in its streaming strategy. During its recent earnings call, the company confirmed that it will fully integrate the Hulu app and its entire content library into a single Disney+ app. This major change will happen in early 2026.

The One-App Experience

The move is part of Disney’s plan to create a streamlined “one-app experience.” This unified platform will bring together content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and Hulu. Its goal is a single, comprehensive entertainment hub for all subscribers. While Disney will phase out the standalone Hulu app, the brand will live on as its global general entertainment brand. It will replace the Star tile on Disney+ internationally this fall.

For subscribers, the new app will be a significant change. Currently, bundle subscribers must use two separate apps to access the full content library. The new app will integrate all of this content seamlessly. It allows for a more personalized homepage with new features. This is designed to improve discoverability and engagement. Users can easily jump between a family-friendly Disney movie and a mature Hulu drama without ever leaving the app.

Business and Live TV Plans

The decision to merge the services is based on several strategic goals. By consolidating its content, Disney expects to lower operating costs, boost advertising revenue, and increase subscriber retention. Executives also hinted at more flexible pricing models for the combined service.

As for Hulu’s live TV offering, there are new developments. The Hulu + Live TV service will be migrated to the Fubo platform. Disney entered into an agreement with Fubo in early 2025. This means that while Hulu’s on-demand content moves to Disney+, the live TV service will become a part of a new, combined Fubo and Hulu Live TV offering.

The Road to Merger

This integration follows a multi-year process that began in 2024. A preview of Hulu content was first made available within the Disney+ app then. With Disney now owning a 100% stake in Hulu, it has the freedom to execute its vision. The company believes this strategy will strengthen its competitive position.
