Infinity Vision

Disney officially unveiled its new “Infinity Vision” theatrical certification program at CinemaCon 2026 this week. This new initiative aims to provide the ultimate premium moviegoing experience for fans across the globe. By launching this program, Disney creates a new “gold standard” for existing Premium Large Format (PLF) auditoriums. This move directly addresses a major scheduling conflict for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday release this December. Disney is effectively building its own premium network to ensure audiences can see their biggest films on the grandest scale possible.

Solving The Avengers And Dune IMAX Conflict

The launch of Infinity Vision comes at a critical time for Marvel Studios and the theatrical industry. Disney currently faces a massive “IMAX lockout” for its December 18, 2026, release of Avengers: Doomsday. Warner Bros. previously secured an exclusive three-week IMAX window for Dune: Part Three, which opens on the same day. This agreement would have left Marvel without any IMAX screens during its most important opening weeks. Infinity Vision solves this problem by certifying other giant screens—like AMC Prime and Regal RPX—as premium alternatives.

The Technical Standards For Infinity Vision

To receive the new Infinity Vision badge, a theater must meet a list of rigorous technical requirements. These standards mandate the use of laser projection technology to ensure superior brightness and 4K clarity. Auditoriums must also feature the largest available screen sizes in their specific markets for maximum visual scale. Additionally, theaters must utilize advanced immersive audio formats, such as Dolby Atmos, to complete the cinematic experience. These stringent criteria ensure that every Infinity Vision theater offers a consistent and high-quality viewing environment for every guest.

Avengers: Endgame Returns With New Footage

Disney will officially launch the Infinity Vision program on September 25, 2026, with a special theatrical re-release. Marvel Studios is bringing the 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame back to the big screen for this major event. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed that this version will feature brand-new, never-before-seen footage integrated into the film. This additional material will help bridge the narrative gap leading into the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The re-release serves as a massive technical showcase for the new Infinity Vision standards before the holiday season begins.

Preparing For The Arrival Of Doomsday

The primary goal of the new certification is to prepare the global market for Avengers: Doomsday this December. Disney announced that over 75 domestic and 300 global PLF screens are already eligible for the Infinity Vision badge. Participating theaters will display the new branding both online and on-site to alert audiences of their premium status. This allows Marvel fans to easily identify the best possible screens to experience the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. By bypassing the IMAX monopoly, Disney is securing its own lane for premium ticket revenue.

A New Era For Premium Moviegoing

Infinity Vision represents a long-term shift in how Disney intends to market its most ambitious cinematic projects. This certification program gives the studio more control over the presentation quality of its films in theaters worldwide. While IMAX remains a vital partner, Infinity Vision provides a necessary alternative in an increasingly crowded theatrical marketplace. As more theaters seek out the certification, the program will likely expand to cover other major Disney and Star Wars releases. For now, the focus remains on delivering the “biggest and brightest” experience for the next chapter of the MCU.
