Disney has officially shared the first look at Lakeshore Lodge, a massive new resort slated to open in Summer 2027. This newest addition to the Disney Vacation Club portfolio will bring a unique blend of nature and modern luxury to the shores of Bay Lake. The resort occupies a prime 500-acre site situated between Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. This expansion represents one of the most ambitious lodging projects in recent years.
The First Standalone Lake Houses
The standout feature of this resort is the debut of exclusive one- and two-bedroom Lake Houses. These standalone A-frame villas sit directly on the Bay Lake shoreline. They feature massive floor-to-ceiling windows designed specifically for Magic Kingdom fireworks viewing. While similar to the Cascade Cabins, these units offer a more modern design. They also incorporate smart-glass technology to maximize privacy and energy efficiency.
Lazy River and Premium Amenities
Lakeshore Lodge will offer amenities rarely seen at a Disney resort. The featured pool complex will include a massive lazy river for guests. This makes the property only the third Disney resort to offer such a feature. It joins the ranks of Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club and Aulani in Hawaii. The resort will also feature 967 themed accommodations. These range from cozy studios to expansive multi-bedroom grand villas.
A New Era for the River Country Site
The site itself sits on the historic footprint of the former River Country water park. For over two decades, this land sat abandoned, but it is now being completely transformed. The new pool complex and lazy river occupy the space once held by the Upstream Plunge. While the project is entirely modern, the “nature through the eyes of Disney artists” theme pays tribute to the wilderness setting. Architects are using classic films like Bambi, Pocahontas, and Brother Bear for inspiration.
A Premier Waterfront Destination
Construction on the project is moving quickly toward its 2027 debut. Many of the main lodge buildings are already nearing structural completion. Once finished, Lakeshore Lodge will serve as a premier destination for families seeking a connection to the outdoors. It represents a significant investment in the future of the Disney Vacation Club portfolio. The resort’s proximity to the Magic Kingdom makes it one of the most anticipated openings of the decade.
