The legendary attraction will shut down tomorrow morning to begin a massive, multi-year transformation. Dedicated Disney purists and nostalgic families are waiting in long lines to secure a final ride. The current iteration has remained largely unchanged since its last major restoration project in 1994.
The 62-year-old attraction is physically limping to the finish line this week. Parkgoers have reported frequent technical glitches, stuck theater rotations, and severe audio desynchronization issues. Audio-Animatronic figures are showing extreme signs of wear during these final show cycles. These constant operational breakdowns show exactly why the historic venue desperately needs a ground up mechanical overhaul.
Rebuilding a Historic Timeline
This extensive construction project goes far deeper than swapping out simple stage props. Engineering crews will completely gut the building’s antiquated hydraulic infrastructure. Workers will replace the troublesome high pressure lines with modern, highly responsive electric actuators. The updated show will debut the first ever Walt Disney Audio-Animatronics figure in Florida. This nostalgic introductory scene will feature meticulously replicated props from the 1964 World’s Fair. Imagineers are recreating the prototype Enchanted Tiki Room bird and the Tower of the Four Winds model.
Imagineers are completely changing every single era to keep the story relatable to modern audiences. The new timeline will guide families through the 1960s, the 1980s, and the new millennium. A brand new outer space finale will draw directly from original sketches by Disney Legend John Hench.
Longtime fans do not need to worry about losing the classic heart of the show. The core American family, Rover the dog, and the iconic theme song will remain entirely intact. Disney expects the updated attraction to welcome back theme park guests sometime in late 2027.
