Buzz Light Year Ballon Parade

The 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is making its spectacular journey through New York City today. This procession officially kicks off the holiday season. Disney has a massive presence in the parade, led by two major new elements set to steal the show: a massive balloon making its debut and a unique performance featuring some iconic villains.

Buzz Lightyear Soars to Infinity and Beyond

The biggest new addition to Disney’s presence for the 2025 parade is the debut of the Buzz Lightyear giant balloon. The beloved Space Ranger is soaring back into New York to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Toy Story franchise. This is an entirely new design for the character. It marks his first appearance in the parade in over a decade.

The New Heroes vs. Villains Showdown

Disney has one spectacular float in the parade, the “Magic Meets the Sea” vessel from Disney Cruise Line. While the float structure is a returning favorite, the performance on its deck for 2025 is brand new. The float promotes the Disney Destiny, the newest ship in the fleet. Its theme is a thrilling new spectacle for viewers.

The scene features a heroes-and-villains showdown choreographed to the new anthem “This Is Your Destiny.” Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie will lead the performance. The fun twist is the presence of three major mischief makers—Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, and Dr. Facilier—who commandeer the choreography. This exciting sequence celebrates the duality and rich storytelling on the new Disney Destiny ship.

Returning Favorites and Storied Legacy

Three spectacular returning balloons reinforce Disney’s massive presence in the sky. Look for the large Disney’s Minnie Mouse balloon, who debuted last year. She is joined by the high-flying Marvel character Spider-Man. The popular Australian children’s character, Bluey, also returns to the route. Disney globally distributes her series.

These four major balloons combine with the one intricate “Magic Meets the Sea” float. Together, they ensure Disney-owned brands dominate the route. This annual celebration underscores Disney’s long and storied parade history. This tradition began in 1934 with the very first Mickey Mouse balloon. Nearly a century later, Disney remains a cornerstone of the holiday event.
