Flag at Half Staff for Charlie Kirk

American flags at Walt Disney World were lowered to half-staff. This action came after conservative activist Charlie Kirk passed away on September 10, 2025. A presidential proclamation was issued to honor his death.

Charlie Kirk was a prominent conservative political commentator and activist. At just 31 years old, he founded and became the CEO of Turning Point USA. Someone fatally shot him while he spoke at a college campus in Utah. His death prompted an outpouring of responses from many people.

Flags at Disney parks were already lowered on September 11 for Patriot Day. This day honors the victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks. While the flags are only lowered for one day for this anniversary, they remained at half-staff. They stayed that way due to the new proclamation.

Although Disney is a private company, it still traditionally follows federal proclamations. The company is not legally obligated to do so. However, it is a long-standing tradition. Disney honors these directives out of respect for national events and figures.

The presidential order directed the flags to stay at half-staff until Sunday, September 14. This means they will most likely remain lowered until that time.
