Disney’s Hollywood Studios is set to transform its Animation Courtyard with a major reimagining, bringing back a familiar icon. The new ‘Magic of Disney Animation’ experience, featuring a Sorcerer’s Hat within this revitalized area, will open in 2026. This overhaul replaces Star Wars: Launch Bay and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! shows. Closures for these attractions begin September 25, 2025.
The Magic of Disney Animation: Main Attraction
The new “Magic of Disney Animation” attraction draws inspiration from Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank. It also pulls from the Emmy Award-winning short film “Once Upon a Studio.” The attraction building will resemble the Roy E. Disney Animation Building, complete with Mickey’s iconic Sorcerer Hat, albeit a smaller version than the park’s previous icon. Guests can explore playful takes on Disney Animation headquarters. Characters come to life here after animators step away. Visitors will see beloved character portraits animate, similar to “Once Upon a Studio.” Guests can also learn to sketch Disney characters and meet various characters.
The Walt Disney Studios Reimagined Courtyard
The entire surrounding courtyard will transform into “The Walt Disney Studios.” This area takes inspiration from the Walt Disney Studios Lot in Burbank. It features the “Drawn to Wonderland” playground for younger guests. Mary Blair’s concept art for Alice in Wonderland inspires the playground. It includes oversized flowers, musical instruments, a Mad Tea Party playset, and a Tulgey Wood exploration area. The Studio Theater will continue to house “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.” A fresh Disney Jr. show will move into the soundstage. The courtyard offers green spaces for relaxation and play. Guests can also enjoy snacks under lush trees. Surprise character appearances are possible. Walt Disney Presents (including exhibits and film presentation) and The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure will remain open during the construction period.
