Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!

Disneyland Resort guests will soon bid farewell to a Pixar favorite. The Mike and Sulley ride is closing at Disney California Adventure, set for permanent closure in early 2026. This beloved attraction’s upcoming closure clears space for a major new addition to the park.

The Hollywood Backlot area will transform. Disney plans an immersive new “Avatar” land there. This upcoming experience draws inspiration from Avatar: The Way of Water and future films. It will offer a unique journey into Pandora’s oceans. This new land will not be a replica of Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

This closure is part of a larger, multi-year expansion for Disneyland Resort. The ambitious plans aim to enhance guest experiences across the parks. Updates include new attractions in Avengers Campus. A new “Coco” themed ride is also planned. That construction begins this fall.

The Monsters, Inc. attraction originally opened with Disney California Adventure in 2001. It replaced the short-lived Superstar Limo. Fans of Mike and Sulley should plan a final visit soon. The ride holds a special place in many hearts.

While saying goodbye to a classic is tough, the future brings exciting possibilities. The new “Avatar” destination promises grand-scale storytelling. It offers thrilling excursions into Pandora’s natural wonders. Details about construction timelines will come later.
