Disney is officially pulling the plug on one of its most popular resort companion platforms. The Play Disney Parks app prepares to permanently shut down next month. The app originally launched to transform standard line wait times into interactive gaming experiences. It will be completely removed from all digital app stores with user logins disabled.
What Happens to In-Park Experiences
While the platform’s retirement marks the end of an era for mobile resort gaming, certain popular features see mixed fates. Over in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the immersive Batuu Bounty Hunters experience remains fully operational. It transitions entirely to MagicBand+ hardware and existing physical screens throughout the land. However, the companion Star Wars: Datapad feature built into the app retires alongside it.
Meanwhile, the future of other physical-digital hybrid experiences remains uncertain. The popular DuckTales World Showcase Adventure at EPCOT is currently down for refurbishment. Park officials note that no further information regarding its post-retirement status is available right now. Regular queue games, park-wide trivia challenges, and digital achievement collections like the Fab 50 character statues also disappear.

Since its debut, the app served as a staple for guests looking to pass time in line. It featured headliner attractions like Space Mountain and Toy Story Mania!. Updates slowed significantly following recent resort tech shifts. Fans now prepare to bid farewell to the digital companion as its operational chapter closes.
Guests hoping to log one final session have until the mid-month closure date to do so. The resorts pivot toward other interactive hardware solutions as the mobile landscape shifts gears.
