A month after his initial arrival at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, twenty-one-year-old western lowland gorilla Bakari is now officially out on the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail leading his new family troop.
As we previously reported, his initial arrival marks a major milestone following the passing of Gino, the iconic original silverback who guided the troop for nearly thirty years from the park’s opening until late 2025.
Careful Troop Integration
Animal care experts guided a gradual, step-by-step introduction process to help Bakari successfully transition from his previous bachelor group into his new leadership role with the resident females.
Caretakers note that Bakari has an easygoing and calm demeanor, often taking time to quietly observe his surroundings and lounge with his chin resting on his hand during daily activities.
Conservation and the Future
This important pairing supports the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan, helping maintain healthy and genetically diverse populations of this critically endangered species for the future.
Guests visiting the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail can now spot Bakari leading his new family out on the habitat as a fresh and exciting chapter begins at Walt Disney World.
