For most guests, a vacation to Walt Disney World is a temporary escape that ends too soon, but one family decided to turn the iconic destination into their permanent backyard. The Ewing family from Georgia has spent the past six years living full-time out of a recreational vehicle at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground for the majority of the year.
Celebrating birthdays, holidays, and everyday life on property, they turned a vacation spot into their routine. Lauren Ewing noted that she chose this unique lifestyle to focus on making meaningful memories rather than just existing and to relive childhood magic through her kids.
Navigating Resort Rules and Regulations
Maintaining this setup requires strict adherence to resort regulations and Florida state guidelines regarding long-term residency. Because guests are prohibited from remaining at a Disney resort for more than 30 consecutive nights, the Ewings pull out of their campsite every 26 days. Take look at the video below:
They stay away for at least 24 hours before returning to reset their stay and continue their routine. Adam Ewing explained that while anybody can do it with enough gumption, the lifestyle demands constant planning, flexibility, and hard work.
The Financial Realities and Rewards
Living inside the Disney bubble comes with a substantial financial commitment that goes far beyond standard living expenses. Campsite fees at Fort Wilderness fluctuate between $155 per night during off-peak periods and upwards of $300 per night during peak seasons.
These totals do not factor in annual park passes, groceries, or general upkeep. Despite the heavy costs and logistical hurdles, the family maintains that the lifestyle is entirely worth the investment to prioritize quality time and continuous family bonding.
