The Power Rangers franchise is officially entering its most transformative era yet. Following the transition of the rights to Disney+, insiders have confirmed that the upcoming reboot will break a thirty-two-year tradition. For the first time since the series debuted in 1993, the production will not rely on footage, suits, or monster designs from the Japanese Super Sentai series. Instead, the upcoming project is being built as a “ground-up” original American production.

Ending the Super Sentai Era

For decades, the franchise’s identity was defined by adapting Japanese action sequences into American storylines. This cost-saving measure allowed for high-octane battles but often limited the creative direction of the show. By moving to a 100% original production model, Disney and Hasbro can now design suits and Zords specifically for a Western audience. This shift aligns with reports that the reboot will adopt a more serialized, cinematic tone.

Production Moves to the UK for 2026

The shift in creative strategy is accompanied by a major change in filming locations. While the series has been a staple of the New Zealand film industry for over twenty years, the Disney+ reboot is officially moving its base to the United Kingdom. Filming is currently scheduled to begin in January 2026. This move likely signals a significantly higher production budget than previous seasons.

A Fresh Start for the Franchise

The upcoming reboot is not expected to follow the existing continuity that concluded with Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. Instead, it serves as a total reset for the brand. While it remains unclear if the show will re-imagine the classic “Mighty Morphin” team or introduce a brand-new roster, the focus is clearly on high-quality storytelling. With original suits and Zords, the Rangers are finally standing entirely on their own.

Building a Cinematic Universe

Disney is positioning this project as a cornerstone for a new streaming universe. Unlike the previous “monster-of-the-week” format, this version will focus on long-form character arcs and world-building. This approach allows for a more cohesive visual style that isn’t dependent on matching foreign action clips. The goal is to create a superhero franchise that can stand alongside other major Disney+ properties.

The Future of Power Rangers

Fans are eager to see how the new suits and Zords will look without the Super Sentai influence. Early reports suggest a more modern, tactical aesthetic for the armor while still respecting the color-coded legacy of the team. As production nears, the anticipation continues to grow for what is being called the most ambitious project in the history of the franchise.
