New Disney+ Special to Bring Back The Muppet Show

It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights! Disney+ has officially announced that a new special based on the beloved variety series The Muppet Show is in the works, with an eye toward a 2026 premiere.

The one-off event will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the original show’s debut and will feature producer and Emmy-winner Seth Rogen, along with pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter as a special guest. The project marks a highly anticipated return for Kermit the Frog and the rest of the Muppet gang.

A New Pilot for a Classic Show

The special is a collaboration between The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg own this production company. The one-off event is a “backdoor pilot.” It will test audience interest in a full new series. If the special is well-received, a new series of The Muppet Show could follow. Take a look at the official announcement below:

New Talent Joins Muppet Veterans

Sabrina Carpenter is a co-executive producer on the project. She has been a fan of the Muppets for a long time. Her history with Disney makes her an exciting choice for the guest role. Veteran Muppet performers will also be a part of the special. Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, and others will reprise their roles. The show will see the Muppets return to their iconic theater. They will put on a variety show, just like the original.

What This Means for Fans

Anticipation for the 2026 debut on Disney+ is high. The announcement created significant buzz across social media. Fans are excited for a return to the classic variety show format. This special could start a new, Muppetational chapter for the beloved characters.
