Disney has pressed pause on another princess remake. The long-rumored live-action Tangled project has been put on hold, leaving Rapunzel’s tower empty for now.
Project Put on Hold
In April 2025, Disney announced that the live-action Tangled was paused indefinitely. The move came after the live-action Snow White underperformed at the box office and with critics. As a result, Disney chose not to move forward with a new princess adaptation so soon.
Gigi Hadid’s Audition
Model Gigi Hadid shared that she auditioned for the role of Rapunzel. She even took singing lessons to prepare, though she admitted she expected Disney to choose a professional singer. While she was proud of her audition, Hadid did not land the role, and no other casting has been confirmed.
No Release in 2026
Because the project is stalled, there is no live-action Tangled film set for 2026. Disney has not provided a new timeline, and the future of the remake remains uncertain. For now, fans will have to stick with the animated classic and the stage productions inspired by it.
