A new era is about to begin at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge as Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run receives its first major update since opening. A brand new mission featuring Din Djarin, the titular Mandalorian, and his young charge, Grogu, is set to debut at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
The new adventure will launch on May 22, 2026. This date coincides with the theatrical release of the The Mandalorian and Grogu film. The new story will not retell the movie. It will still take place in the same narrative universe. The new storyline sees guests team up with Mando and Grogu on a bounty hunt. Hondo Ohnaka has caught wind of a deal on Tatooine between some ex-Imperial officers and pirates.
New Features and Gameplay
For the first time ever, the crew will have more control over their mission. Those in the engineer position can choose a flight path to a new location. These new destinations include the cloud-covered city of Bespin, the Death Star wreckage near Endor, or the bustling planet Coruscant. The engineer role will also feature new, interactive responsibilities with Grogu during the mission.
This immersive experience is a collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering, Industrial Light & Magic, and Epic Games. The ride’s new visuals and gameplay run on Unreal Engine 5. This is the same real-time rendering technology used to create The Mandalorian series. It allows for high-quality, cinematic environments.
To ensure authenticity, Imagineers worked directly with The Mandalorian creator and Disney Legend Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni. They filmed scenes on the movie set itself. This creative partnership makes the new mission feel as authentic as the show. The update will be available at both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World versions of the attraction.
