A brand-new animatronic figure of Walt Disney is coming to the Magic Kingdom. This is a historic first for Walt Disney World. The news was announced at the Destination D23 event on August 30, 2025. Walt himself will be added to the Carousel of Progress, the attraction he personally conceived.
A New Introductory Scene
The new animatronic will appear in a new introductory scene. It will welcome guests to the attraction. The figure will share Walt’s vision for the show he created for the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Imagineers announced this addition to honor Walt’s enduring legacy.
A First for Walt Disney World
A figure of Walt has never been a permanent fixture in a Walt Disney World attraction. This marks a significant milestone. A similar Walt Disney animatronic was just added at Disneyland for its 70th anniversary. The Walt Disney World figure, however, will be unique to its specific setting and purpose.
Other Potential Updates
The announcement also hinted at other potential updates. Imagineers teased that guests will “find out what John, Sarah, and the rest of the family” have been up to. This suggests the final scene may finally get an update to reflect modern technology. It currently takes place around the year 2000.

Disney has not yet announced a timeline for the refurbishment. However, the news has ignited excitement among fans. They are eager to see the man who started it all return to his beloved attraction.
